2019 SunWatch Reconstruction Days

August 23-24 | 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

The exhibits team for the Dayton Society of Natural History is looking for some extra help for two days of archaeological reconstruction at SunWatch Indian Village/Archaeological Park. Join our team for a fun outdoor day as we work on daubing house walls in the reconstructed American Indian village.

When you arrive staff will provide background information on the site, demonstrate the daubing process, and then break everyone into groups to tackle the day. Staff will be supplying food and drink on this fun and messy mud day.

Minimum Age: 16

Time Commitment: We are asking for morning or afternoon arrival time, with a 2 hour minimum

Other Requirements: Please come prepared for a day outdoors in the sun with clothes and close-toed shoes that are OK to get dirty and wet. (No flip-flops, please!) We strongly encourage you to also bring towels to clean yourself off before you leave for the day and/or keep your car clean!  If possible, please bring sunscreen, bug spray, work gloves, and bottled water.

  • Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Volunteers must be able to lift at least 10 lbs and feel comfortable bending down.
  • Volunteers will be asked to sign a release prior to starting work.
